Orthorexia Nervosa |
OUR ACTION PLANKEM Awareness is committed to advocating for orthorexia nervosa to be recognized as a distinct disorder, separate from other eating disorders, by raising awareness among healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the general public. Through education and outreach efforts, we aim to increase understanding of the unique challenges and risks associated with an unhealthy fixation on healthy eating. By collaborating with experts in the field, conducting research, and promoting evidence-based treatment approaches, we strive to provide effective support systems and resources for individuals affected by orthorexia nervosa. Ultimately, our goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding this condition and improve the lives of those impacted by raising awareness and fostering a compassionate and informed approach to addressing orthorexia nervosa.

Our Mission
|
Welcome to our campaign dedicated to raising awareness about Orthorexia Nervosa, an emerging eating disorder that deserves our attention and understanding. Orthorexia Nervosa is characterized by an obsessive focus on healthy eating, to the point where it becomes detrimental to an individual's physical and mental well-being. While Orthorexia Nervosa shares similarities with other eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, its unique manifestation centered around an obsession with "pure" or "clean" eating sets it apart.
As advocates for mental health, we believe it is crucial to bring Orthorexia Nervosa to the forefront and advocate for its recognition as a distinct disorder. By shedding light on this condition, we strive to challenge misconceptions, provide support, and foster a more inclusive approach to eating disorder diagnoses and treatment. Orthorexia Nervosa affects individuals across various age groups, genders, and backgrounds. It can start innocently enough, with a desire to improve one's health by adopting a balanced and nutritious diet. However, for some, this pursuit can escalate into an all-consuming obsession, creating rigid and restrictive eating patterns that jeopardize their overall well-being. Despite its prevalence and the significant impact it can have on individuals' lives, Orthorexia Nervosa has yet to receive formal recognition as a diagnostic category in widely accepted classification systems, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This absence can result in a lack of understanding, misdiagnoses, and inadequate treatment options for those grappling with this condition. Through our campaign, we aim to challenge this status quo and advocate for the recognition of Orthorexia Nervosa as a distinct disorder. By gaining recognition, we can foster improved understanding among healthcare professionals, researchers, and the general public. We strive to create a world where individuals struggling with Orthorexia Nervosa can receive appropriate care, support, and understanding. Join us on this journey to raise awareness, promote recognition, and ultimately establish Orthorexia Nervosa as a recognized disorder. Together, we can break down barriers, empower those affected by this condition, and pave the way for comprehensive research, specialized treatments, and compassionate support networks. Let us work together to create a future where mental health, balanced relationships with food, and holistic well-being are prioritized for all individuals. |
